Junior Mechanical Estimator

Our client is a fast-growing mechanical building services company dedicated to delivering innovative and sustainable solutions to clients across all sectors.

They’ve been trading for just over 7 years, and in that time have built a strong client base with multiple repeat job orders and have grown to be one of the go-to choices for Mechanical services in Derbyshire & the Midlands.

Due to their continued growth, they’re in a position bring a Junior Mechanical Estimator into the fold. The successful candidate would have some experience in mechanical D&B projects & have a strong knowledge base of HVAC & mechanical services.

Due to being a relatively new business with a big forward order book, there is an abundance of progression & development opportunities available for the right candidate.

Position Overview – Junior Mechanical Estimator

• Assist in preparing accurate cost estimates for mechanical projects, including HVAC, plumbing, and pipework.
• Review project specifications, drawings, and other documentation to understand project requirements.
• Utilise estimating software and tools to quantify materials, labour, and equipment required for each project component.
• Analyse and evaluate project costs, including material prices, labour rates, and subcontractor quotes.
• Identify cost-saving opportunities and value engineering alternatives to optimise project budgets.
• Collaborate with senior estimators and project managers to refine estimates and develop competitive bids.
• Prepare detailed bid proposals and tender documents for submission to clients.
• Ensure accuracy and completeness of bid packages, including pricing breakdowns, scope of work, and project schedules.
• Coordinate with various departments to gather relevant information and incorporate it into bid documents.
• Request quotes and pricing from vendors and suppliers for materials and equipment.
• Evaluate supplier proposals and negotiate pricing and terms as necessary.
• Maintain relationships with suppliers and seek opportunities for cost reductions and improved efficiencies.
• Maintain organised and up-to-date records of project estimates, bids, and related documentation.
• Generate reports and analysis to track project costs, profitability, and performance.
• Communicate effectively with internal teams to ensure clarity and accuracy of project estimates and proposals.

Position Requirements – Junior Mechanical Estimator

• Experience in an estimating position within Mechanical Building Services.
• Strong mathematical and analytical skills with attention to detail.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and experience with estimating software.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
• Eagerness to learn and grow within the company.
